What will be our response?
God is so kind! He wants us with Him where He is – even in the here and now. He is extending an invitation to us all. An invitation for encounter and an invitation for partnership. He has been so faithful to call forth, plant, and sustain a treasure right here among us in our city and region.
The CALL is going forth – What will be our response?
You may ask yourself – what is the reason and the purpose behind a House of Prayer?
You may ask yourself – Why? Why have a House of Prayer?
The VISION & CALLING is to be a Prayer Center where multiple congregations ~ the Church of the City ~ can work together, engaging the heart of God through ministry to Him, to change the spiritual atmosphere of our city and surrounding area. This is a mandate from the Holy Spirit that will require the whole Body of Christ in an area coming together for one purpose. The House of Prayer is –
- A Place of encounter & intimacy with Jesus
- A Place of Unity for the Body of Christ and Kingdom Building
- A Place of Intercession for spiritual awakening and the things on God’s heart
- A Place for Missions, Outreach, Training & Equipping for all ages
In Matthew 22:36-39 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the FIRST and GREATEST commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
This scripture is God’s definition as to what must be first place in our hearts.
The House of Prayer is a central location for the Body of Christ in an area to come together in unity and to first minister to God by loving Jesus. Jesus tells us – that we must love Him first, and then be sent out to do the second commandment – which is to love others.
Both are important and all the law rest upon these 2 commandments. But, we must be very careful to not place the second commandment before the first. Many times, we get them in the wrong order. It is not an option. It is God’s commandment. We must do the First Commandment first – which is to actively love God with all that we are and then to do the Second Commandment which is the Great Commission – to GO and love others and make disciples.
“Yes, worship of the loving God is man’s whole reason for existence.” ~ A.W. Tozer
This is the #1 reason for the House of Prayer!
“One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.” Psalm 27:4
This statement from King David still stands as being utterly amazing, considering all that he had access to in his life. At the time of his reign over Israel, he was possibly the most powerful man on the earth, but all of the palaces, horses, wives, and riches paled in comparison to his fascination with the one true God. Dwelling in God’s house, gazing upon God’s beauty, and seeking after Him was the most important calling of David’s life.
Wow! No wonder God called him a “man after My own heart!”
The House of Prayer must also be a place to come together in UNITY as God’s people for Kingdom building and to Intercede, Pray, Contend, and Cry Out for the things upon God’s heart.
Spiritual Awakening is the only thing that will bring salvation, revival, and transformation to our nation, our cities, our churches, our families, and our own hearts.
God reminds us all through His word to pray with persistence and to not give up. 2 Chronicles 7:14-16; Luke 18:1-8; Joel 2:12-19; 1 John 5:14-15; Ephesians 6:18; James 5:13-16; Psalm 141:1-2; Romans 12:12; Psalm 145:18; Matthew 7:7-8; Luke 6:12; Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; 1 Timothy 2:8
“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.” ~ Oswald Chambers.
“There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer.” ~ A.T. Pierson
“To make intercession for men is the most powerful and practical way in which we can express our love for them.” ~ John Calvin
The House of Prayer in a city or region should be a shining lighthouse planted and sustained by the work of the Holy Spirit. Loving Jesus and ministering to His heart through worship and intercession should be first place and then the people of God are fueled and ready to be sent out as salt and light to the people of their community.
“Set a fire down in my soul that I can’t contain and I can’t control. I want more of You God. I want more of You God.” ~ Will Reagan
“Affection-based obedience is obedience that flows from experiencing Jesus’ affection for us and giving it back to Him. It is the strongest, deepest, and most consistent obedience. Why? Because a lovesick person will endure anything for love. A lover will always outwork a worker. When a worker becomes a lover, their paradigm about the work changes greatly.” ~ Mike Bickle
All of us who are part of The Church, The Bride, The Body – We must awaken!
Our culture is changing rapidly all around us and “business as usual” in the church is no longer working. Desperate times call for desperate responses. The Holy Spirit is moving all across the earth and encountering the Body of Christ in every nation for such a time as this and the call to prayer is being trumpeted like never before. 24/7 Prayer Rooms and prayer ministries are rising up all across the globe and this is a mandate that no one church can do alone. We know what God’s prescription is and His invitation is calling our names. It will take the unified efforts of the whole Body of Christ in an area to worship Jesus non-stop – like He is worshiped around His throne and to contend for the next Great Awakening.
“When Daniel knew it was time for the shifting of empires, he doesn’t leave it up to the sovereignty of God to get the job done. He sets himself to fasting and prayer and archangels move to the old man’s prayers. The scriptures say, that God does nothing unless He first reveals it to His servants the prophets. Why? So they can intercede on earth as He is interceding in heaven to bring it forth. Revelation demands participation!” ~ Lou Engle
The House of Prayer is not something new. It has always been in the heart of God from the very beginning. It was not man’s idea. It was God’s plan all along.
God said in Isaiah 56:7 – “These I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
Jesus is worthy!
God is calling us!
And the Holy Spirit is inviting us to partner with Him for such a time as this!
The INVITATION is for now!
Our response must be a unified YES!
